Actual work in civil utilities and substructure (roads, power stations, water salivation …etc) in July 1997. Inauguration of the industrial city was celebrated in October 1997. Giad industrial city leis 50 km south of Khartoum on the west band of the Blue Nile at the National Khartoum, Port Sudan highway, it is also on the railway line. Following the success achieved in the petroleum field, a similar growing care was to follow suit in the industrial sector. Giad cars and trucks manufacturing company, adhering the importance of industry which will achieve no development without the optimum and rational use of machine, as right from the start it has established a center for training and developing the technical and administrative team in charge of this great work.
The establishment of this giant industrial complex realizes a number of objectives to be summarized into :
-As man is the end target of development, this project makes an improvement in per capita income and improvement in the standards of living of the society.
-Developing the economic traditional sectors (agriculture, and grazing) through introducing modern technology and training of manpower to the use of agricultural machines and equipment and means of transport.
-saving of hard currency through reducing imports and making revenues from exports of Giad’s products.
-Introducing heavy industry to the Sudan and encouraging the other accompanying industries such as metals (copper, iron, aluminum), considering that crude of these metals are available in various parts of the country.
-Encouraging small-scale and light industries particularly in the field of trucks and cars such as manufacturing of tyres, exhaust pipes, headlights, reflectors, windscreens, filters and brake sets taking into account that Giad is a basic consumer of these products.
-Creating a counter-migration movement (from city to country side) through providing employment opportunities, good an easy services, that match urban counterparts. This will ease pressures on services and crowds in the capital city and other big cities.
-Workers will acquire the basic industrial technical and technological skills necessary for coping with the era of technology and globalization through training courses to foreign countries or in various training centers in addition to in-service training.
-Presenting an example for the successful investment in which all necessary basic structures are provided (rods, energy, water and production lines).
-Presenting another example for successful industrial compounds that could be generalized in all parts and regions of the country as it leads to stability of citizens in their homeland through improving them the services.
